Basil (Ocimum basilicum) or Sweet Basil takes its name from the Greek for `king' so is still known as the 'King of herbs'.
Basil is the ultimate companion to tomatoes, and also pairs beautifully with onions, garlic and olives. A key ingredient in Mediterranean cooking, and delicious in a pasta sauce, it is most often used in conjunction with Oregano, but it also blends well with Rosemary and Sage.
