Black Mustard seeds is widespread throughout the warm temperate zone and cultivated for its hot, aromatic flavour.
It is closely related to Yellow Mustard Seeds which has a milder flavour.
It is used in making prepared mustard and as a component in pickling Spice (see separate entry).
Fried whole black mustard seeds are used extensively as a garnish in Indian cooking, particularly in vegetable dishes.
Ground mustard seed can be particularly hot and is often used as the basis for marinades and glazes used with beef
